The Dunkeld was first recorded in 'A Book on Angling' by Francis Francis 1867. It was created as a salmon fly but soon proved its worth as an attractor pattern for trout on both rivers and stillwaters.

I haven't used this pattern for many years. The last time I did was in the early 1980's on the Bristol lakes, which proved very successful for me. Sadly I have none in my box at the moment and since I shall be spending a week in Dunkeld this June, I thought I would tie a few and try them on their home water
