Beacon Beige Dry Fly

Catalogue No: 803
Peter Deane based his fly the Beacon Beige on an earlier pattern 'Beige'. Reputedly renamed after a local hill Culmstock Beacon, he may have linked the names because both the hill and the fly are highly visible. This simple pattern that sits so proudly on the water has been deceiving trout for so long it is a definite must for every fly fisherman's fly box.

Fishing Tips

The history of the original fly, called the 'Beige' dates back to the time of the first world war, when it is reputed that a member of the Wills family created this pattern whilst on leave from the Somme in 1916. It is hard to imagine a tough war veteran sitting down at the fly tying bench and creating such a delicate fly after what he must have witnessed. Yet we all can experience the tranquil pleasure of being at the side of the water with fly rod in hand - how truly therapeutic.

Request a fly, size or option

We work closely with our fly tyers and can tie most patterns to order: a different hook size, barbless instead of barbed, a tungsten bead instead of a gold head; just ask.

Sending a request is free and you are not committing to buy. Depending on where we are in our tying cycle it can take a month or two for a pattern to arrive, and we may not be able to tie every request (fair usage applies); but if we can, we will.

Sign in first and we'll pre-fill your email and keep the request with your account.
